The lowest or minimum SEER rating allowed in the state of Texas is 14 SEER. This requirement is dictated by the U.S. Department of Energy. Although 14 SEER is the minimum rating, the U.S. Department of Energy is already having discussions to increase that number and make the minimum rating to 16 SEER. This is due to the fast heat rise over the last 5 years.
In 2006, the average retail price for electricity was 10.40¢ per Kilowatt hour.1 By May 2018, that price increased to 13.15¢ per Kilowatt hour.2 That’s a 26.44% increase in your electricity costs!
